Sunrise: A Unique Interior Experience at Vulca Studio's Supermarket Design

Creating a Multicolor Sunrise Within the Walls

Vulca Studio's Sunrise design takes inspiration from the essence of a street market, conceptualizing small stores within the store concept. Each area has its own interpretation, while still maintaining a homogeneous atmosphere with different ecosystems living in harmony. The color palette and mood draw inspiration from a multicolor sunrise, known for its relaxing and fulfilling experience.

The Sunrise design by Vulca Studio stands out from other supermarket designs with its focus on upgrading the shopping experience for middle-class consumers. With a mission to become the best supermarket in the city, Vulca Studio had to create an original concept that would make the brand more appealing and comfortable to consumers throughout the store.

The first challenge the designers faced was the floor plan and circulations. They considered three main factors: the client's income by department and profit margin, observation of customer behaviors, and customer experience and input. Once the layout was approved, the designers utilized natural plywood as the main material for walls and furniture to create a cohesive atmosphere and achieve the proposed look and feel of the interior.

The Sunrise design covers an area of 3,726.95 square meters, measuring 65.5 meters by 56.9 meters. It was developed in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, over a period of 12 weeks from June 22nd, 2018, to September 14th, 2018.

Extensive research was conducted by the design team, benchmarking supermarkets in major cities across the country, particularly Mexico City. The team visited over 10 stores, looking for trends to break and new ones to create. The floor plan was based on previous store data and insights provided by the client, such as sales by department, profit margin, wants, and must-haves. One interesting finding was that warmer and focused lighting in the store gave it a more expensive feel, avoiding a warehouse-type atmosphere.

The Sunrise design has the potential to reach and influence thousands of people every day, creating positive memories and linking the brand to a comfortable shopping experience. With an average of 2,500 daily visitors, Vulca Studio's design enriches the lives of many. The design team successfully overcame challenges such as creating a better store without looking expensive, expressing the values of the existing brand, and finishing the project on time with minimal room for changes.

Vulca Studio's Sunrise design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Sunrise design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
